Dead Zones Metric
A dead zone is a large, stable dark area visible in a diamond when it is slightly tilted. It can be seen with both eyes simultaneously and is largely independent of lighting conditions.
The Octonus Dead Zones metric analyzes the diamond under special lighting that accounts for a real observer's head profile and body obscuration, and emulates how the brain merges the left- and right-eye images.
It is calculated from photorealistic data (model rendering).

Grades. The severity is translated into one of five grades:
| Grade | Meaning |
|---|---|
| None | No meaningful deadzones — the stone lights up evenly. |
| Light | Small or faint dark areas; barely noticeable. |
| Medium | Clearly visible dark zones affecting part of the stone. |
| Heavy | Large, dark zones covering a substantial portion. |
| Severe | Extensive dark regions dominating the stone's appearance. |
Tasks Interface Update
- Unified task interface. The panel now handles every task type, not just rendering.
- Progress for every task. Tasks now report progress as they run, not only on completion.
- Estimated time remaining. Each task shows a projected completion time based on statistics from previous runs.
- Detailed task results. Task now reports full details — parameters used, and any warnings raised during the run.
Spectrum for Brilliant Story Rendering
When rendering a virtual try-on episode for a lab-grown fancy color diamond, you can now select a synthetic diamond spectrum. This makes the rendered color match how the stone actually behaves under light.
