What's new?

  • Fixed GUI problem with wrong convertion of carat values (null value after convertion) with group separator (depending on Windows locale):
    • From this moment digit grouping symbol available in some locale formats cannot be entered in the carat field, only decimal symbol for the set Windows locale could be entered:
  • Added a special IG cube building algorithm
  • Default lower thresholds changed to 125 for stone and 253 for inclusions. Also, please, read a workaround for fast threshold and holder limit below (temporal solution to eliminate 'not responding' status)

IG cube building algorithm (experimental feature)

Due to the high absorbtion of IG cube and problems with its Xray reconstruction we cannot use the same algorithm for model reconstruction as we use for typical rough. So for IG cube there is another procedure for its reconstruction:

  1. Open Xray project as usual
  2. Disable inclusion plotting:
  3. Enable Smart hole filling option to fill holes after segmentation of cube:
  4. Adjust the lower segmentation threshold so that in Z slice you see segmentation contour near the cube border and there is no holes in most Z-slices (near the center of the cube). Example of right slice segmentation:

    Examples of wrong:
  5. Set lower holder limit to cut the glue and stage:
  6. Enable windows calculation mode (by default enabled):
  7. Use calibration to HIG (by default is enabled if system is calibrated to HR):
  8. Press 'Launch model build'
  9. After automatic window calculation will be finished you will see the found planes of IG cube, press 'apply window' as usual and build manually planes for each side of the cube if automatic algorithm failed to do it:

    NOTE: For front, back, left and right sides of the cube we must have at least on plane built (for top and bottom we do not need planes - they are ajusted by holder limits)
  10. Check option 'Intersect window planes' and click Finalize:
  11. After that the model of IG cube will be exported, you may save it as mme.

Workaround for fast threshold changing

At the moment the 3d voxel visualization is working very slow and it is the reason of frequent 'not responding' program state when you change thresholds and holder limits.

Here is a temporal workaround how to change thresholds faster. Suppose, we have opened Xray project:

Select 3d voxel visualization view by clicking on it and then move to the layers panel and switch of its visibility:

The voxel view will be disabled:

Then change thresholds and holder limits.

After that again click on 3d voxel view and enable layer visibility, you will see the visualization with new thresholds.

Also - to switch voxel visualization between 3d model and inclusions view, use the combobox on the right panel:

Other recommendations for optimizations of program speed:

  • Never launch program for samples with HR stage glued without cutting glue and stage by holder limit setting. Stage ang glue consists from non-uniform material and is reconstructed with noise - it will give millions of components after segmentation, require a lot of RAM and the speed of calculations will be very slow.
