Star Edge

Star Edge is the length of the side edge of a star facet.

Calculation

To determine the vertices forming the Star Edge, the star facet is projected onto the table plane, and all its straight edges are compared by their projection onto the direction at 135° to the facet's azimuth. The edge with longest projection is assumed to be the Star Edge. Note that the Star Edge value is the 3D distance between the corresponding vertices, and not the projection itself; the latter is only used to locate the correct edge.

Reporting

There are 16 independent values of Star Edge in a round brilliant cut.

Star Edge (symmetry)

Star Edge (symmetry) is defined as the maximum difference of Star Edge values of the same star facet. The maximum is taken over all star facets. It measures the extent of deviation of the star facets from isosceles triangles. The lower Star Edge Symm, the better is the overall symmetry of the stone.

Star Edge Symm = max( |A1-A2|, |B1-B2|, ..., |H1-H2| ) (see the notation on the picture above).
